Hello! I’m Victoria Pater, the designer behind Mid Mod Pin. I love small, cute objects but I collect large things, too — my home is stacked with modern furniture both vintage and new. During my day gig, I design brands, experiences, and digital products in my hometown of Chicago. At any given moment, you can be sure I’m planning my next vacation with my husband or scheming on new outlets for my creativity with my dog by my side.
The first Mid Mod enamel pin was created in the Spring of 2016. After returning from vacation in Japan (design heaven), I felt inspired to create something just as tiny and whimsical as everything I had collected on my journey.
Since then, the Mid Mod Pin collection has grown out of reflection on past and ongoing personal adventures: from childhood visits to my grandparents in Palm Springs, to a misguided yet thrilling journey on a scooter in Taiwan, to meandering road trips with my sisters throughout the Midwest where we mapped out midcentury modern architecture along the way. Mid Mod Pins are also an homage to the intricate level of detail that the midcentury era embodies. Zooming in 500% to illustrate the eyebrows on a Tiki mug may seem ridiculous to some, but I’m devoted to quality with a capital Q.
Both travel and midcentury design take us to another place, letting us daydream and reminisce about past and future adventures. Mid Mod Pins can be a collector’s item, like passport stamps, or stories. They can even represent a vacation you’ve been dreaming of — laying on a sunny beach, cocktail in hand… so cheers to taking new adventures and the mementos that we treasure along the way!
